The Hostelrie Story
A proper rural pub for locals, by locals
The Hostelrie has stood at the heart of Goodrich for generations, a historic country pub with a deep connection to the village and its surrounding landscapes. Originally built in the 18th century, it has served as a gathering place for locals, walkers, and visitors exploring the nearby Wye Valley and Goodrich Castle. Now, in March 2025, The Hostelrie is entering an exciting new chapter under new ownership.
Currently closed for refurbishment, we are working to restore and enhance this much-loved inn, bringing it back as a true cornerstone of the local community. Our vision is simple: a welcoming, rural pub serving high-quality, honest food in a relaxed and friendly setting. We believe in sourcing locally, supporting regional producers, and offering a menu that showcases great ingredients cooked with care.
As we prepare to reopen, we are actively looking for the right team to bring this vision to life. We are seeking an energetic manager or a managing couple with a passion for great hospitality and the ambition to run their own pub in the future. This is an incredible opportunity to take the reins of a historic inn, shape its future, and become an integral part of a thriving rural community.

Our Mission
The Hostelrie is a true cornerstone of the community—a welcoming space where locals, friends, and visitors come together for good food, great company, and genuine hospitality.
We serve high-quality, locally sourced food at fair, sustainable prices, supporting regional producers and fellow businesses (including other pubs).
More than just a pub, we’re a place of warmth, laughter, and connection—a home away from home for all.
And if (when!) we get it right, we’ll prove that village pubs can not only survive but thrive in today’s world.
